Health 100 Restoreant: A Beloved Vegetarian Eatery in Baguio City

f fresh produce means plenty of options for vegetarian and plant-based meals. On my recent visit to the City of Pines, I had the pleasure of dining at Health 100 Restoreant on Magsaysay Avenue. This humble and unassuming eatery offers a variety of vegetarian dishes, with vegan options available, all at very affordable prices.

Health 100 Restoreant

With over a decade of service, Health 100 Restoreant has become a cherished establishment in the community, known for its healthy, flavorful, and budget-friendly meals. This success didn’t happen overnight. Owner and entrepreneur Elmer Macalingay, an Adventist, worked tirelessly to establish his business. His mission is to make healthy meals accessible to everyone.

Carinderia-Style with Short Order Options

The restaurant’s atmosphere is simple, welcoming, and unpretentious. I visited on a Sunday, and it was bustling with families and friends, yet I easily found a table near the entrance. The interior reflects the typical carinderia-style, where customers choose from the available viands of the day, order, and then pay. Utensils, drinking water, glasses, and condiments are self-service.

There is also a menu for special orders of set meals, which might not always be available on the daily menu. These special orders offer a delightful variety for regular customers.

Vegetarian Meals with Vegan Options

Most of the meals at Health 100 Restoreant are vegetarian, with some containing dairy or meat (preferably beef and no pork). Vegan options are available upon request. Adventists are known for their use of mock meats, and Health 100 features these, along with dishes made from pure vegetables and root crops.

During my visit, I ordered their recommended Sisig Rice for lunch. The serving was generous, featuring mock meat, vegetables on the side, and brown rice. It was quite good, though the portion was too large for me to finish. I saved some room for their Carrot Cake, which was outstanding—moist, flavorful, and not overly sweet. I would definitely return for this dessert.

Vegan Siopao

For takeaway, I bought a siopao asado for dinner before my bus trip home. The bun appeared to be made from wheat, and the mock meat filling was very savory. One siopao was sufficient for a satisfying dinner.

If I ever return to Baguio, Health 100 Restoreant will be on my list of places to revisit. Be sure to follow their Facebook page, as they regularly post their daily menu.
